Some Mommy's Helper work fulltime, with 9 to 5 shifts. Others work three to five hour shifts during the day, or after school shifts until Dad gets home. Some Mommy's Helper work evenings from around 6 pm until bedtime, 9 or 10 pm. Some Mommy’s Helper work every day, some work one or more shifts per week.

The Mommy's Helper is there to relieve some of the pressure a new mother feels as she moves into her new responsibilities of parenting. By mothering the mother, a Mommy's Helper makes sure that the mother feels nurtured and cared for. A Mommy's Helper is trained to identify warning signs of the onset of postpartum depression so she can alert family members so the family can seek outside assistance.
